Safety Programs
Customers, regulators and the general public are increasingly requiring companies to implement formal safety programs to protect their employees, reduce risks and safeguard the public and the environment.
At Benoit we don't just talk safety - we live it. For us, safety is number one.
Since 2000, Benoit has held its Certificate of Recognition (COR) issued by Alberta Employment and Immigration. We're very proud of becoming the first company in our operating region to take this important step. The COR is the primary provincial regulatory recognition affirming that a company has an established and complete set of safety programs, procedures and training in place.
Benoit has continually maintained its COR in good standing. We have conducted the required internal audit every year and have undergone the required external audit every three years. The most recent external audit was performed in 2008. Benoit received a score of 97 percent, well above the minimum acceptable standard of 75 percent.
In addition to our COR, we hold our Basic Safety Program (IRP9) and Industry Recognized Practice (IRP 16), which are recognized in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Our welding procedures and quality control programs qualify us to construct pressure piping and vessel modification to applicable ASME codes.
Benoit achieves its high safety performance thanks to:
- A full-time safety manager based in our Chauvin, Alberta headquarters, who implements safety training programs and safety procedures and frequently visits field sites to ensure operations are carried out according to high safety standards;
- Our experienced, conscientious team of senior employees and managers. Their many years of service translate into safe operations and the ability to pass on the company's accumulated knowledge to new employees;
- All new employees undergo in-house safety training and are required to hold H2S Alive, First Aid, WHMIS and TDG. Prospective employees must pass a drug test before they are hired by Benoit; and
- A modern equipment fleet that is owned and maintained by the Company, enhancing the safety of our operations.
Benoit was the first company operating in the central Alberta region to receive a Certificate of Recognition (COR) for its safety standards and processes.
